A few photos from the recent Sun Records Concert, some of the cast before, and of the show itself.
Snettisham Beach is almost featureless, and isn't all that interesting. Apart that is, from the the remains of an old pier, which is why I've gone there many times over the years to take landscape photos. The structure has an almost unearthly quality, and due to it's ongoing decay (bits of it are falling off), the photos that are possible are at each visit tend to be quite different.
More or less every year I go to The Photography Show at the NEC to have a look at the newly released technology in the industry, sometimes take advantage of show deals, and occasionally take in the odd seminar. This year, when I found at that one of the pioneers of the use of camera flash in the field (before it became so popular) was giving a photo shoot on the grounds of the NEC, I thought I'll give that a go and meet the man in person. It took the form more or less of a portrait/fashion style shoot, with Joe talking about - and confirming what I already knew about his style of working - how he would use movie style lighting techniques in stills photography. I would say the first location worked better than the second, the results are below, with a photo of Joe himself having a chat to some of the other attendees.....
This week, in my attempts at forming a habit of taking landscape photographs, I thought I'd take a trip to Thornham Harbour, a location characterised by several old tree trunks/stumps. I'm not sure how long they've been there, but they can be an interesting subject matter if handled correctly although they have been photographed a lot over the years. Thornham Harbour is also a well known birdwatching spot, and there's always a few twitchers trying to get a good view of the various species of birds found there. I'm only there for the landscape though, and I hope you enjoy the results.
I hadn't found much time to get out and shoot landscapes for quite some time, so off to the Norfolk coastline I headed. Even though it was overcast, windy and the sky appeared quite featureless - generally just drab - I still felt it was worth the effort. I was surprised by the amount of people about on Old Hunstanton where I had chosen to go (even though it was half term at the local schools, it was a miserable day and not one for a trip to the beach), so I had to work around that, and even included people in one photo. I also decided the photos had to be edited as black and white, monochrome seemed to fit the day, the conditions and the subject perfectly. I was quite pleased with the final results, and I plan on shooting landscapes far more often.....
